GEOMAR

GEOMAR is among the largest non-university research institutions in the field of marine sciences in Germany, and a member of the Helmholtz Association. The Centre’s mandate is the inter- and multidisciplinary investigation of all relevant aspects of modern marine sciences, from sea floor geology through physical, chemical and biological oceanography to marine meteorology. Research is conducted worldwide in all oceans. The main research topics are grouped in four divisions: Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, Marine Biogeochemistry, Marine Ecology and Dynamics of the Ocean Floor. The research studies carried out by the Marine Ecology Division, Research Unit Experimental Ecology – Food Webs aim at better understanding the role of biodiversity in ecosystem functioning. Besides field and lab activities, a central role is played by theoretical modelling.

Role in the project

Network analysis of alternative decentralized schemes for management and valorization of biowaste. New indicators will be developed to test the efficiency of different systems, with a holistic approach. Network analysis algorithms will be applied to support decentralized biowaste management planning.
