Organic fertilisation with compost

Organic Fertilisation With Compost

The Waste Agency of Catalonia, together with the Catalan government’s Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food organised a conference titled “Organic fertilisation with compost”, at the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park on 28 November last year.

Other co-organisers included the Agricultural Park of the Baix Llobregat, ADV Fruiters of the Baix Llobregat, Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and Unió de Pagesos.

The “Organic fertilization with compost” took place in Prat del Llobregat, targeting the potential agricultural sector that receives this resource (compost) obtained from organic waste. The conference’s objective was in fact to explain the benefits of the use of organic compounds and fertilisers. There were also several types of composts produced in Catalonia presented and exhibited as well as a practical demonstration of their application in horticultural crops.

Compost as an organic fertiliser provides a number of benefits to soil and crops, such as increasing its capacity to withhold water and nutrients. This contribution of organic matter improves the fertility and structure of the soil, contributing to the prevention of erosion and its degradation and the mitigation of climate change. Catalnia has a history of more than 20 years of producing quality compost for use in agriculture, from the composting of the organic waste of our kitchens and gardens.
